Cirkus – indoor playground, Klatovy

A great place for children who need to let off steam properly when it is raining outside. There is a large play zone full of climbing frames, slides and soft obstacles. For parents there is somewhere to sit and something to eat and drink.

Usually open every weekday except Monday, 13:00–19:00.

Kdyně water centre

A pleasant salt-water pool complex. Children love the 60 m flume, the water features and the paddling area with its slide. There is also a whirlpool, a sauna, a waterfall and a children's corner.

Children are admitted from the age of 1.

Environmental centre, Železná Ruda

An interactive centre devoted to the nature of Šumava. Somewhere children can learn about the forest, its animals and its ecosystems by doing things. A good stop to round off a day in Železná Ruda.

Museum of historic motorcycles and bicycles, Železná Ruda

One of the most interesting museums in the region. Children and adults alike will admire dozens of historic motorcycles and old bicycles by makers such as Jawa, ČZ and Harley-Davidson. There is a model railway too.

The “Dřevák” forestry visitor centre, Modrava

A beautifully made centre about the history of timber work in Šumava. Children can climb over models of log floating, examine the exhibits, or try the hands-on displays.

Kvilda information centre

A modern information centre devoted to the nature of Šumava, with displays on red deer, peat bogs and the mountain environment.

Srní information centre

An interactive exhibition about wolves, the nature of Šumava and the life of forest animals. There is usually a small children's zone as well.

Museum of historic motorcycles and bicycles, Kašperské Hory

An excellent museum with a large collection of motorcycles and bicycles. Children usually spend a long time here among the models and display cases.

A nostalgic display of traditional Czech toys — from wooden construction sets to dolls and puppets.

Sušice pool complex

A modern swimming complex with water features, saunas, a paddling pool and whirlpools. The indoor pool is ideal for cold or wet days.

Osserbad Lam pool complex

A very popular pool complex — 3 indoor and 4 outdoor pools, flumes, a children's paddling pool, a sauna and a steam room. Good in summer and winter, and children of any age are admitted.

Bayerwald-Tierpark Lohberg (Lohberg zoo)

A forest zoo that works in poorer weather too. Children can feed the goats and donkeys and watch wolves, lynx, otters and other animals.

Localbahnmuseum, Bayerisch Eisenstein

A museum of the local railway with 20 historic vehicles. There is also a display of old trains and locomotives, and a model railway.

Naturpark Welten

Five exhibitions under one roof: a model railway, the highest railway in the region, a ski museum, a display about the Großer Arber, and an exhibition on the life of bats.

Animal museum (Tiermuseum Pfeiffer), Regenhütte

The largest museum of taxidermy in Europe. A fascinating collection that usually holds children and adults alike.

Joska Glasparadies glassworks

An enormous glassmaking centre. Children can blow a glass marble themselves, visit the workshops, and watch the glassblowers at work.

AQUACUR pool complex, Bad Kötzting

A complex in three parts — a conventional pool area with flumes, a thermarium (warm pools, whirlpools, a Kneipp walk) and a sauna world. Good for children and adults, and ideal on a winter day.
