Zahrada domu a louky za ní

Four small chateaux (Mlázovy, Mokrosuky, Nemilkov and Obytce)

25–35 minfor familiesno crowdscharacterful

Smaller, characterful chateaux without the crowds — each with its own story and something for children. Only 10–25 min apart.

Mlázovy (30 min)

A Baroque chateau which celebrated its three hundredth birthday in 2021. The owners are restoring it bit by bit and have made the grounds very welcoming for families — besides the exhibitions there is an English park with a playground, a children's corner and giant wooden chess. The information centre sells snacks.

Mokrosuky (35 min)

Quite unlike the others, and that is its charm. The owner, Jan Jelínek, is a former fencer, a master blacksmith and swordsmith, and you can feel it — nothing dressed up, everything honest and raw. In the museum of historical fencing, with its hands-on armoury, you can feel the weight of a sword or a flail and try on a piece of armour. In summer there are children's days, night tours and bread baking in the old smoke kitchen.

Nemilkov (25 min)

A Renaissance and Baroque seat built on the remains of a Gothic fort. Each wing comes from a different period, so a guided tour takes you through the centuries from Gothic to Classicism — and gives you a look behind the scenes of the restoration under way. The former brewery holds a freely accessible display on farming.

Obytce (30 min)

A small village 6 km from Klatovy with a sensitively restored chateau. The estate includes a farmyard, a replanted chateau park, two pavilions, a pond and a small lake. Concerts, exhibitions and seasonal festivities are held here through the year.

What sets them apart
They are run by the owners and their families. Where the big Šumava castles fill up in season, here it is quiet and personal.
How many you can fit in
One, two, or all four — it is 10 to 25 minutes between them.
Best for children
Mlázovy: an English park, a playground with a sandpit, a corner with a slide, and giant outdoor wooden chess.
Check first
Opening hours and what is on. They hold themed events, and Obytce is only open to the public occasionally.
