The highest royal castle in the country — with a children's guided tour that everyone likes.
About the place
Kašperk is among the most striking castles in Šumava, and it has kept the atmosphere of its age. It is an ideal family outing — beautiful, pleasantly long and undemanding, and the courtyard is quiet and easy-going at the same time.
- The walk to the castle
- 1.5 km from the car park on a forest track, gently uphill but comfortable — a pushchair will manage it. The castle appears among the trees as you go.
- At the castle
- The usual guided routes, a popular children's guided tour, and a small refreshment stand in the courtyard.
- Kašperské Hory (3 km)
- A square of medieval houses, the church of St Margaret, the museum of historic motorcycles and an exhibition of Czech toys. Cafés, restaurants and small shops.
- Altitude
- 886 m — the highest royal castle in Bohemia, founded by Charles IV.
