An adventurous climb to a twin summit on the border, with stunning views into both countries.
About the place
The two summits — Malý Ostrý (Kleiner Osser) and Velký Ostrý (Großer Osser) — rise on the German border, and their shape earned them the nickname “the Breasts of the Mother of God”. From the top you can see into both countries.
A turning worth taking
A short detour to the mountain meadow of Osserwiese adds only 600 metres to the route. In summer it is full of bilberries, and the views from it are worth the effort.
- Parking
- On the German side; put Wanderparkplatz Osser „Sattel“ into the satnav. You can start from the Czech side via Hamry, but it is 6.5 km and considerably harder.
- Waymarking
- Red and white, L1/3, from the car park to the summit.
- Distance
- 2.3 km to Velký Ostrý. On the way you can turn off to Malý Ostrý.
- How hard
- A shorter route, but the climb is steep in places. Higher up you scramble over rocks — children usually take that as an adventure.
- With children
- From about 4–5 years, depending on experience. Smaller ones will manage in a carrier; a pushchair is out of the question.
