An outing where the journey is the point — by train through the longest railway tunnel in the country.
About the place
A train ride is an adventure for children in itself, and this one adds a tunnel under a mountain. You can get off at three places depending on how long a day you want, and it is all within reach without complicated planning.
- The journey
- Nýrsko to Železná Ruda takes about 35 minutes. It passes through the longest railway tunnel in the Czech Republic (1 747 m), under the Špičák mountain.
- Špičák stop
- Right below the mountain. From there it is a walk to the bottom cable-car station and on to the lookout tower.
- Železná Ruda centre
- The Šumava visitor centre, the museum of historic motorcycles, and Café Charlotte — children love the model railway that runs around the ceiling.
- Alžbětín (the end of the line)
- The station building stands half in Czechia and half in Germany. There is the Naturpark Welten and the Localbahnmuseum with twenty historic vehicles.
