An outing where the journey is the point — by train through the longest railway tunnel in the country.

About the place

A train ride is an adventure for children in itself, and this one adds a tunnel under a mountain. You can get off at three places depending on how long a day you want, and it is all within reach without complicated planning.

The journey
Nýrsko to Železná Ruda takes about 35 minutes. It passes through the longest railway tunnel in the Czech Republic (1 747 m), under the Špičák mountain.
Špičák stop
Right below the mountain. From there it is a walk to the bottom cable-car station and on to the lookout tower.
Železná Ruda centre
The Šumava visitor centre, the museum of historic motorcycles, and Café Charlotte — children love the model railway that runs around the ceiling.
Alžbětín (the end of the line)
The station building stands half in Czechia and half in Germany. There is the Naturpark Welten and the Localbahnmuseum with twenty historic vehicles.
