Downhill and cross-country skiing

Next to the house

4 km

Nýrsko in winter

A ski slope, an ice rink and groomed cross-country trails — all four kilometres from the house. A winter day with children needs no long drive: the slope in the morning, skates in the afternoon, and home for lunch in between.

Nýrsko ski area

We warmly recommend it, above all to families with children. Prices are among the lowest around and the place is perfect for relaxed family skiing.

  • a blue run and a children's lift
  • a ski school for children
  • ski hire and servicing
  • evening skiing
  • refreshments, parking and Wi‑Fi

Public ice rink

Nýrsko also has a public ice rink, and it is very well kept. There are lavatories and a small kiosk. Plastic skating aids are free for children learning to skate.

➡️ You may only go on wearing skates (no shoes on the ice).

Current public skating times are here: https://www.sportoviste-nyrsko.cz/sportovistenyrsko/

Cross-country trails

Nýrsko and the country around it have groomed cross-country trails, so you can set off on skis straight from here.

For the current state of the trails across Šumava we recommend https://bilastopa.cz/ — it shows which tracks are groomed, the snow conditions and the weather.

Skiing for children and beginners

21 km

Weissova louka

The best choice nearby if you want to put children into a ski school. The excellent School4fun runs here, with plenty of friendly instructors taking turns through the day.

There are two lifts (one for complete beginners), refreshments, ski hire and evening skiing.

23 km

Alpalouka

A small, quiet area that suits children and families with the youngest. The main lift is a T-bar, and the slope is gentle and pleasant. There are refreshments and a ski school.

Lift passes are among the cheapest in the Železná Ruda area.

Skiing for stronger skiers

22 km

Špičák ski area

  • a four-seat chairlift with a boarding carpet (1 272 m),
  • a 400 m snowpark,
  • further shorter runs nearby.
25 km

Nad nádražím – Belveder, Železná Ruda

Two linked ski areas with 5 lifts and 7 runs (4 red, 3 blue), and you can ski over the hill on a single pass.

Skiing in the Bavarian Forest (Germany)

36 km

Velký Javor – Großer Arber

The highest mountain in Šumava on the German side — 1 456 m.

The area has 9 runs of every difficulty, a gondola, two T-bars, a six-seat chairlift and a 500 m snowboard half-pipe.

A good choice for families and experienced skiers alike. Compared with Špičák, the snow is more reliable.
