Cycling Trips
🟦 A) Pumped-Storage Reservoir (50 km)
Route: Nýrsko – Hamry – Brčálník – pumped-storage reservoir – Špičácké sedlo – Hojsova Stráž – Zelená Lhota – Nýrsko
Distance: 50 km | Elevation gain: 794 m | Highest point: 1072 m a.s.l.
The route follows cycle paths and local paved roads.
From Nýrsko, head past the Forest Theatre (Lesní Divadlo Nýrsko) along cycle path no. 33 to Hamry. In Zadní Hamry, it’s worth stopping at the pilgrimage site Křížkov – the open foundations of a former church. Continue towards Špičák. After crossing a small bridge, turn onto the only asphalt road leading up to the pumped-storage reservoir. The circuit around the reservoir offers beautiful views.
From here, rejoin the road toward Špičák and continue along cycle route 2100 to Hojsova Stráž, where stunning views of Nýrsko and the mountain ridge open up. Descend through Zelená Lhota toward the railway line, continue to the water treatment facility, and return via Stará Lhota back to Nýrsko.
🟩 B) Zadní Chalupy (20 km)
Route: Nýrsko – Zadní Chalupy – Suchý kámen – Nýrsko
Distance: 20 km | Difficulty: Easy | Surface: 80% asphalt
A perfect, undemanding family ride.
From Nýrsko, follow cycle route no. 33 past the Forest Theatre (Lesní Divadlo Nýrsko) to Stará Lhota and the reservoir. Continue past the dam to Špirk, where you turn right onto route no. 2049. The area offers wonderful views of Prenet, Můstek and the reservoir.
A gentle ascent is followed by a steeper section – but manageable even at a slow pace. Continue downhill to a crossroads with several route options. Here, turn right toward Zadní Chalupy, where you’ll find the only refreshment stop.
From Zadní Chalupy, continue along a forest road toward Suchý kámen – a scenic spot with views of Chudenín and Koráb. A steeper downhill brings you back to asphalt, and from there you ride comfortably back to Nýrsko.
🟥 C) Černé Lake (38 or 60 km)
Route: Nýrsko – Špičák – Černé Lake (Černé Jezero) – Stateček – Hinter Helmhof – Svatá Kateřina – Fleky – Chudenín – Nýrsko
Distance: 60 km (full route) / 38 km (with cycle bus) | Difficulty: Moderate to challenging
A scenic, rolling route on paved roads without extreme climbs.
Option 1: Full route (60 km)
From Nýrsko, follow cycle path no. 33 past the Forest Theatre (Lesní Divadlo Nýrsko), Stará Lhota and Špirk toward Hamry. Be cautious of a short muddy stretch (about 20 m) when exiting the forest. Continue through Střední and Zadní Hamry, where a 2 km climb leads to Špičák–sedlo.
Option 2: With cycle bus (38 km)
Save 22 km of uphill riding and join the route directly at Špičák.
From Špičák onward
At Špičák–sedlo, turn right near Hotel and Restaurant Karl and follow the paved road to Černé Lake. The dam offers spectacular views of the cliff wall. Continue past the former Border Guard station to the highest point of the route. After about 400 m, you’ll reach a shelter – this is Bílý vodopád, the highest waterfall in Šumava. Bikes must be left at the road before descending the steps to the viewpoint.
From the waterfall, continue along the scenic Horizontála trail overlooking Hamry, Nýrsko and the Klatovy basin. Arrive at Stateček, where views of Prenet open up.
The route then continues through Hinter Helmhof, Angelmühle and Gschwent to Svatá Kateřina, before descending through Fleky to Chudenín and finally back to Nýrsko.
